Proof that Bhima conquered Karna’s Anga Kingdom in his digvijaya for Indraprastha.

  1. Proofs from several Mahabharata translations.
    1. FROM BORI CE - Having subjugated Jarasandha’s son and extracted tribute from him, the powerful one marched with all of them against Karna. 36 The earth trembled with his fourfold army. The best of the Pandavas fought with Karna, the destroyer of enemies. O descendant of the Bharata lineage! He vanquished Karna in battle and brought him under his sway. He then defeated the powerful kings who lived in the mountains. (Volume 2 page 120)
      1. BORI CE is a fan favorite text of Karna fans.
      2. This translation is considered most critical because of the years of research and removing interpolations.
      3. Screenshot of BORI CE's translation
      4. Analysis of the screenshot proof
        1. It says that Bhima conquered many countries and that Bhima subjugated Karna.
        2. If you scroll down in the footnotes then it's clearly written in a screenshot (the link of #36) that the Karna who Bhima conquered was Karna of Anga.
    2. Mahabaratha Tatparya Nirnaya
      1. Screenshot
      2. Definition of grumbling - http://www.dictionary.com/browse/grumbling
      3. Vyasa told Arjuna that Karna will give tributes to Bhima without much resistance aka grumbling. This means that according to this translation Vyas believed that Karna will accept Bhima's supremacy and Pandava rule without a fight.
    3. FROM KMG - And making the earth tremble by means of his troops consisting of the four kinds of forces, the foremost of the Pandavas then encountered Karna that slayer of foes. And, O Bharata, having subjugated Karna and brought him under his sway, the mighty hero then vanquished the powerful king of the mountainous regions. Sabha Parva: Jarasandhta-badha Parva: Section XXIX
      1. KMG is the most famous translation.
      2. KMG is used most by Karna fans in their discussions out of any of the other translations.
  2. COMMON SENSE.
    1. Karna was present at the Rajasuya Yagna - and Karna that foremost of all charioteers; and Salya endued with great might and the strong Valhika; and Somadatta, and Bhuri of the Kuru race, and Bhurisravas and Sala; and Aswatthama, Kripa, Drona, and Jayadratha, the ruler of Sindhu; and Yajnasena with his sons, and Salya that lord of earth and that great car warrior king Bhagadatta of Pragjyotisha accompanied by all Mlechcha tribes inhabiting the marshy regions on the sea-shore; and many mountain kings, and king Vrihadvala; and Vasudeva the king of the Paundrayas, and the kings of Vanga and Kalinga; and Akastha and Kuntala and the kings of the Malavas and the Andhrakas; and the Dravidas and the Singhalas and the king of Kashmira, and king Kuntibhoja of great energy and king Gauravahana, and all the other heroic kings of Valhika; and Virata with his two sons, and Mavella endued with great might; and various kings and princes ruling in various countries; and, O Bharata king Sisupala endued with great energy and invincible in battle accompanied by his son--all of them came to the sacrifice of the son of Pandu. Sabha Parva: Rajasuyika Parva: Section XXXIII
      1. EVEN BORI CE SAYS KARNA WAS THEIR - the supreme warrior Karna, Rita, Shalya the king of the Madras, the maharatha Bahlika, Somadatta of the Kuru lineage, Bhuri, Bhurishrava, Shala, Ashvatthama, Kripa, Drona,20 Jayadratha the king of Sindhu, Yajnasena21 and his son, Shalva the lord of the earth, the greatly famous Bhagadatta, king of Pragjyotisha, all the mlecchas who lived along the shores of the ocean, the kings from the mountains, King Brihadbala, Vasudeva from Pundra, the king of Vanga, the king of Kalinga, Akarsha, Kuntala, the Vanavasya, the Andhrakas, the Dravidas, the Simhalas, the king of Kashmir, the immensely energetic Kuntibhoja, the immensely strong Suhma, all the other kings and warriors from Bahlika, Virata and his sons, the maharatha Machella, kings, the sons of kings, the lords of many countries, the immensely valorous Shishupala, invincible in battle, and his son, Rama,22 Aniruddha, Babhru, Sarana, Gada, Pradyumna, Samba, the valorous Charudeshna, Ulmuka, Nishatha, Pradyumna’s valorous son and all the other Vrishnis who were maharathas. They all went to the Pandava’s sacrifice. (Volume 2 page 129)
      2. Screenshot of BORI CE
        1. Analysis of the screenshot - It says that all the kings arrived, and from all directions, their is only one Karna (in Mahabharata) who was considered a supreme warrior, and that is Radheya Karna.
    2. Some Karna fans say that the Pandavas never attacked the kingdoms that were friendly, related with hastinapura and indraprastha. This is infact wrong - The hero brought under his subjection and exacted tributes from the Paundrayas and the Dravidas along with the Udrakeralas and the Andhras and the Talavanas, the Kalingas and the Ushtrakarnikas, and also the delightful city of Atavi and that of the Yavanas. Sabha Parva: Jarasandhta-badha Parva: Section XXX Over here Sahadeva attacked the Kalingas. And the Kalingas fought on the side of Hastinapura during Kurukshetra. Also some texts say that the Kalinga princess was a wife of Duryodhana.
      1. Bhima even tried to subjugate to the Pancalas and defeated them through compromise (peaceful victory) - And the tiger among the Bharatas, possessed of great valour and ever increasing the sorrows of his foes, was accompanied by a mighty host with the full complement of elephants and horses and cars, well-armed and capable of crushing all hostile kingdoms. That tiger among men, the son of Pandu, going first into the great country of the Panchalas, began by various means to conciliate that tribe. Sabha Parva: Jarasandhta-badha Parva: Section XXVIII
      2. The Pancalas were Bhima’s in-laws yet he still went to their territory. So he would definitely go to Karna’s kingdom to subjugate. Bhima could have compromised with Karna but they did not and as a result war happened. Same with Jarasandha, only difference is that Karna’s life was spared (probably cause he was dear to Duryodhana, or just surrendered).
    3. BORI CE confirms that the Karna who was encountered and conquered by Bhima in Sabha Parva was clearly Karna the king of Anga.
      1. Screenshot from page 351 of Bori Ce's 2nd volume
    4. Bhima was sent to conquer the eastern direction of south asia (bharatvarsh) - Vaisampayana said,--in the meantime, Bhimasena also endued with great energy, having obtained the assent of Yudhishthira the just marched towards the eastern direction. Sabha Parva: Jarasandhta-badha Parva: Section XXVIII
    5. Karna’s Anga (Ang) kingdom was clearly in the east.
  3. Pathetic excuse to justify the disrobing of Karna at the hands of Bhima. Some fool fans of Karna say that he was invited to the sacrifice of the Pandavas as a respected guest and he was asked to give gifts to all other invitees/guests. That theory is a complete lie and the people who make this claim often take the whole incidents out of context to overglorify and highlight Karna. The truth is that Yudhishthira never asked Karna to do anything. Karna had no role in the sacrifice, he was just their as a defeated king who was forced to pay tribute to the Pandava's. He was not given any role he was not allowed to receive any gifts, the Pandavas just made him watch as they performed their grand sacrifice, their victory parade, the Rajasuya. Screenshot from Bori Mahabharata
Sabha Parva section 32 clearly states that Yudhishthira only asked family members from Hastinapore, not Karna. Karna was not known to be their family member and he was considered an outsider over here, he was not addressed at all.
  4. Statements of several characters who questioned Karna’s competence.
    • Dhritarashtra mentions that Karna has always lost to Kunti’s sons in all his battles with them - Karna will never succeed, O Sanjaya, in vanquishing those mighty bowmen, viz., the sons of Pritha. In all the battles that Karna has fought with the sons of Pandu, the latter have invariably defeated him on the field. Drona Parva: Jayadratha-Vadha Parva: Section CXXXII
    • Bhishma exposes how Karna simply brags about his skills despite getting defeated by the Pandavas and others - http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m05/m05049.htm
'Although this one often boasteth saying, "I shall slay the Pandavas", yet he is not equal to even a sixteenth part of high souled Pandavas. Know that the great calamity that is about to overtake thy sons of wicked souls, is the act of this wretched son of a Suta! Relying upon him, thy foolish son Suyodhana hath insulted those heroes of celestial descent, those chastiser of all foes. What, however, is that difficult feat achieved by this wretch before that is equal to any of those achieved of old by every one of the Pandavas? Beholding in the city of Virata his beloved brother slain by Dhananjaya who displayed such prowess, what did this one then do? When Dhananjaya, rushing against all the assembled Kurus, crushed them and took away their robes, was this one not there then? When thy son was being led away as a captive by the Gandharvas on the occasion of the tale of the cattle, where was this son of a Suta then who now belloweth like a bull? Even there, it was Bhima, and the illustrious Partha, and the twins, that encountered the Gandharvas and vanquished them. Ever beautiful, and always unmindful of both virtue and profit, these, O bull of the Bharata race, are the many false things, blessed be thou, that this one uttereth.'
What, however, O Kama, hath been achieved by thee single-handed like any of the sons of Pandu, each of whom had alone subjugated many lords of earth?
In what single combat didst thou vanquish Dhananjaya, or Nakula, or Sahadeva, although thou hast robbed them of their wealth? In what battle didst thou defeat Yudhishthira, or Bhima that foremost of strong men? In what battle was Indraprastha conquered by thee?
He was asking Karna a rhetorical question.
  • Balarama exposed how Karna (a ruler of the east) was defeated by Bhima in the Rajasuya Yajna:Tirtha-Yatra
This powerful hero, who is a very great warrior when mounted on a car--this Bhima, of appetite rivalling a wolf's conquered single-handed all the rulers of men in the east, together with, those who followed them in battle; and he returned from those wars safe and uninjured.
  • And Karna was clearly a ruler of men in the east.
CONCLUSION: These great personalities taunted Karna and exposed how he has never succeeded in defeating even one of the Pandavas in war. They say he has been defeated by the Pandavas in every encounter and that he has achieved nothing compared to them.
ALL OF THESE TRANSLATIONS, QUOTES, ANALYSIS ETC PROVES THAT KARNA WAS INDEED ENCOUNTERED & DEFEATED BY BHIMA DURING THE RAJASUYA WARS. THE SPECIFIC DETAILS ARE NOT GIVEN IN THE TEXT BUT ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT KARNA WAS SWIFTLY DEFEATED BY BHIMASENA AND MADE TO PAY TRIBUTE TO THE PANDAVAS. THE BATTLE MUST NOT HAVE TAKEN VERY LONG IN MY OPINION. BUT WHAT WE CAN SAY FOR SURE IS THAT THE BATTLE DID HAPPEN AND KARNA WAS DEFEATED. AND THIS ANALYSIS PROVES SO!

Karna and his pathetic fan's can keep crying but unfortunately it won't change the truth. THAT'S IT!
PS: another proof that shows the fact that Bhima conquered Karna's kingdom and defeated Karna during the Rajasuya Yajna
Also do not forget that during the Krishna-Karna Samvad it was stated that Karna ruled Anga only for thirteen years, and this was due to the connections he had with Duryodhana. This was stated by Karna himself. Possibly meaning that Karna served two terms as the king of Anga.
Here is the proof:
I cannot venture to destroy those bonds even for the sake of the whole earth or heaps of gold. In consequence also of my connection with Duryodhana of Dhritarashtra's race, I have, O Krishna, enjoyed sovereignty for thirteen years, without a thorn on my side.
Now if Karna was crowned by Duryodhana during the Tournament of Adi Parva then he would have been enjoying sovereignty far longer than a mere 13 years don’t you think? And Karna specifically said “his connection with Duryodhana”not that Duryodhana crowned him.
So judging by the above quote we can infer that Sakuni won every kingdom the Pandavas conquered in the Rajasuya Yajna due to the game of dice in Sabha Parva. And then he bestowed the property upon Duryodhana who in turn gave a share (Anga) to Karna.
Also Karna was the king of Vanga too. As stated by Sisupala:
Praise thou this excellent of kings, Darada, the ruler of Valhika, who rent this earth as soon as he was born. Praise thou, O Bhishma, this Karna, the ruler of the territories of Anga and Vanga, who is equal in strength unto him of a thousand eyes, who draweth a large bow, who endued with mighty arms owneth celestial ear-rings of heavenly make with which he was born and this coat of mail possessing the splendour of the rising sun, who vanquished in a wrestling encounter the invincible Jarasandha equal unto Vasava himself, and who tore and mangled that monarch.
Bhima conquered Vanga:
And the Pandava then, O king, subjugated in battle those strong and brave heroes of fierce prowessviz., the heroic and mighty Vasudeva, the king of Pundra and king Mahaujah who reigned in Kausika-kachchha, and then attacked the king of Vanga. And having vanquished Samudrasena and king Chandrasena and Tamralipta, and also the king of the Karvatas and the ruler of the Suhmas, as also the kings that dwelt on the sea-shore, that bull among the Bharatas then conquered all Mlechchha tribes.
Those could be monarchs that were ruling Anga/Vanga as representatives of Karna, as Karna was always in Hastinapore residing with Duryodhana. Plotting schemes against the Pandavas. Masquerading as a Brahmana of Bhrigu's race in the Mahendra mountain etc.

  1. Dhritarashtra's fear of Arjuna during Udyoga Parva - He who hath the irresistible, excellent and celestial Gandiva for his bow, he who hath a couple of celestial quivers obtained from Varuna,--large, full of shafts, and inexhaustible, he on whose banner, that is unobstructed like smoke in its action, is stationed the monkey-image of celestial origin, whose car is unequalled on the earth girt by the four seas, and the rattle of which as heard by men is like the roar of the clouds, and which like the rolling of the thunder frightens the foe; he whom the whole world regards as superhuman in energy; he whom all the kings of the earth know to be the vanquisher of the very gods in battle; he that taketh up five hundred arrows at a time and in the twinkling of the eye, shooteth them, unseen by other, to a great distance; that son of Pritha and tiger among car-warriors and chastiser of foes, whom Bhishma and Drona and Kripa and Drona's son and Salya, the king of the Madras, and in fact, all impartial persons, regard as incapable of being vanquished by even earthly kings of superhuman prowess, when ready for fight who shooteth at one stretch full five hundred arrows, and who is equal unto Kartavirya in strength of arms; that great bowman, Arjuna, equal unto Indra or Upendra in prowess,--I behold that great warrior committing a great havoc in this terrible battle. http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m05/m05060.htm

    1. Anga is not a part of Hastinapore. I don't know what your problem is. Perhaps you should read Mahabharata instead of embarrassing yourself. I don't hide like your idol Karna does from gandharvas.

  5. O thats why in the final battle Karna was able to defeat each and every pandava. And Arjuna the great had to resort to cheating. Only the weak cheat , not the mighty. So much for the stupid twisted logic

    3. Bhim defeated karn too at Kurukshetr. And why do you think it's cheating to kill him? Karn broke the rules since Day 13 and forfeited his life. Further, the terms forbid attacking a defenceless or retreating person. Karn didn't throw in his towel, and didn't cast his bow aside wither. Moments before he was beheaded he had shot Arjun.

    4. Well, the rules of war were broken by pandavas first by arjun attacking bhishma standing behind shikandhi. And also the 13th day reference only says he was made chariotless and later bhima was defeated by karna.

    5. oh,common. The rules were broken from the very first day.And Arjuna was only protecting the chariot wheel of shikandi.

he lost to foot soldiers on the 14th night

dhrishtadyumn has pramohan astra that makes a enemy sleep, he can kill parashuram, shri ram and msot warriors of Ramayana with it
